Responsible disclosure is a very important point for photographers in my opinion. Of course, you can’t submit everything you shoot, because we not all are paparazzi or Google Streetview. For me it’s important to talk to the people and even ask them if I’m allowed to submit pictures of them. That’s why I give people I portrait at random my card, so I can send them the pictures and ask for permission to add them to my gallery or portfolio or just my blog. That’s why I normally wouldn’t let anybody upload pictures from events we were together before reviewing them, especially portraits. When you are behind the lens, you mostly have a feeling if the people you shoot are okay with the photo or if they’re not really into being photographed right now. Anybody else will probably not have the same memories and by reviewing the pictures they might not recall the situations as the photographer did. That’s why I’d never submit all the material I gather, but select carefully.

This came to me, when Lennart told me he had submitted some pictures and I had to ask him, to ask some people to ask for permission first. I personally don’t have a problem with pictures of me and I pose for party photographers when they ask me, but we have to keep in mind, that this is different for everybody and should respect their personal choices, especially in times of image search engines and face-recognition.
