I can’t guarantee that these people actually have hired somebody or if they even ran a spam bot accross wordpress sites, but it pretty much looks like it.

Let me break it down for all of you people out there who are even playing with the thought of blasting your nonsense through the web in the hope of gaining a couple of links to your pityful site.

It is not cool to spam blogs with random things and a URL to your own website like this:

Plissee fürs Wohnzimmer günstig kaufen
plissee1.de/plissee-fuers-wohnzimmer
Harpole@gmail.com
IP: 173.245.220.170

The text in the comment body was the following:

The panel van edition specially designed for the British General Publish Office, and applied by the two postmen and telephone engineers was called the Bedford HA110 right here, and had a specially tuned engine. Detuned in fact, in order that it produced a mighty 27 bhp! The joke in the time was that it absolutely was reserved for carrying 2nd class letters, which did not offer up coming day delivery.

Which first of all is completely unrelated to the post it was left on and secondly, doesn’t have anything to do with them.

Even if it’s pretty hard to prove that they actually did send off that spam bot, they are still doing social media wrong, because all of their currently 38 tweets look exactly like this with varying products:

Plissee Line Perl LINDGRÜN:… bit.ly/JHNj7I plissee1.de

— Plissee1 (@Plissee1) april 27, 2012

I’m begging you guys, whoever did your social media and PR stuff, fire them. Thank you.

I have previously reported troubles and tips for rooting my AT&T Fusion, which is a low budget smartphone that has an exchangeable sim card, which is great for everybody who wants to buy a phone in the US and bring it back to Europe or elsewhere.

Anyways, I was still stuck on one topic and in a conversation with Lennart he doubted, that a Cyanogen Mod image for my crappy hardware probably existed.

But it does!

After being frustrated with the bloatware on my phone, I found a thread in the android forums called:

Huawei Fusion (U8652) Roms, C7 mod & root!, which is a great help.

Remove the bundled apps on this at&t phone

I finally could remove apps like:

Documents To Go

Layar

AT&T billing bla bla

AT&T tons of other stuff

This thread works great, besides, for Mac users, there is no real instructions and the .bat files don’t really work. Although, as you might sense already, there is a solution for that!

First of all, forget the drivers download, you don’t need it.

Just download the Android SDK and fastboot, start it and download the platform tools, after that copy the adb file to the clockwork mod folder and run the commands in the ClockWorkMOD 5.0.2.7 (Bootloader-Volum DOWN+ POWER).bat file by hand.

This is what actually is in the file:

adb-windows.exe reboot bootloader
timeout /t 5
fastboot-windows.exe flash recovery recovery.img

What you have to run after putting the adb file in this directory:

./adb reboot bootloader && ./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Now in my case, after also booting to recovery mode, operating with the VOL+ and VOL- keys and installing Cyanogen Mod, it was stuck in an endless boot loop (I played around with some advanced features and did not clear the dalvik cache)

Cyanogen Mod and the infinite boot loop

If you’re stuck in an endless loop, boot it to recovery mode again, clear all the caches and re-install cyanogen mod. That worked for me, if it doesn’t for you, go for google, that’s what brought me here with a phone that runs like thrice as fast.

So how is the Cyanogen Mod so far

All I can say is faster, prettier and not messing up my entire internal storage.

Mentioned previously, I have some disagreements with my current university. For not leaving out the positive parts I have to say that the prompt reaction after my blog post is very appreciated. Prior to the meeting I had with the administration today, the big relief had already settled in, that asp.net and C# are not the only ways to a bachelor degree. We in fact are allowed to code with whatever we want and for now I think we have to choose PHP or C# for an exam project. This hopefully will not be the case on the day I leave this place.

So in contrast to my previous university, my blog post had an impact, I was listened to and encouraged to help to improve this, although the general happiness about the post itself was limited.

This is definitely and environment I can work with. Correcting the link from the previous post, that was sent to us (amfphp.org) I have no received the correct link which leads to a framework, that is supposed to make cross platform API involving development easier: silexlabs.org/amfphp/. Does anyone have any experience with this framework?

Wrapping up, it was a nice first day and I’m looking forward to doing cool stuff with interesting people.

All summer I was excited to see how my new studies at the Erhvervsakademi Lillebælt in Odense as a Web Developer would be like. Next monday will be my first day and I’m already frustrated with the incompetence of this institution.
My future coding teacher failed to use the BCC field in his email client and published my email address to a bunch of people I didn’t know. At this point I want to state, that I would accept a formal apology.
C# and asp.net (very valuable and great technologies which surely have a future in the field, cough cough) are in the curriculum and I feel the need to abuse this blog as a watchblog for all this university/school/whatever screws up.

Secondly, they again use Fronter, a dysfunctional spy system to determine absence and engagement of students which suffers from incredibly bad usability and which I believe is a complete disaster. Oh they failed to sign me up for that too (without asking of course).

As a Mac/Linux user I feel discriminated by the requirement of Microsoft Visual Studio for development. I also without being asked have been signed up for some Microsoft Development Network (thanks a bunch). I have no idea how anyone in their right mind could stick to this proprietary solutions, while the real world is full of Linux servers, asynchronous, non-blocking I/O and everything you can wish for. Did somebody snuggle with the lobby too much?

Teachers obviously don’t feel obligated to call back.

Hello to one more place who does not seem to care about either privacy or being open about what they are going to teach. If they ANYWHERE would have mentioned this proprietary garbage, I would not have signed up at this place.

Also great is, that part of our curriculum obviously is a webshop for womens swim wear (no joke, the URL is in the file I was sent): http://www.amfphp.org/
I hope my teacher will personally promote the sexy swim wear that is advertised in the front page slide show.

I could not find my wifi, but all I had to do was to switch the channel of my wifi to a lower number. It was on channel 12, switched to channel 1 and my phone could find it.

My router configuration now:

Security: WPA/WPA2

Channel: 1 (instead of 12)

My Phone:

Linux; U; Android 2.3.5; en-us; Huawei-U8652 Build/HuaweiU8652B855)

Fixed! (looking forward to a more up to date smartphone.)

Hey everybody. I hope to be able to motivate you to sign a little petition against Peter Sundes jail time. We all remember him for being the spokes person for the Pirate Bay or founding Flattr.org.

He made an appeal of not having to face his conviction, which seems to have been pressured through and not have a solid basis. Peter Sundes appeal is available translated to English and worth reading for everybody with interest in this case or his side of the story.

It was pretty overwhelming to read how much the swedish judicial system epically failed on this trail and how unprepared for this age of technology it was.

As some of you may have noticed, I have launched another blog over at vollzeitblogger.de. It’s a blog about blogging, SEO, social media and everything that loosely is attached to any of these topics. After some months of planning, writing content, sketching designs and some research, that brought up a lot of part-scam, part advertisement bloated blogs in German, I decided to actually launch the site in the middle of my exam period.

So anyways, what I consider a success so far, is that I got in touch with some new people, revived old and solid friendships and from now on can divide the languages between these two blogs and also my portfolio (instead of blogging trilingual there).

This way I can actually put a lot of my knowledge where it can do most good. I’m not saying that Germany is more awesome than other countries, but that there already are so many great resssources out there, in English, that I ratheroutput some info in German, for those who would maybe not read it in English, apart from that I believe I also can provide a higher quality of content in my native language.

Through this division I will hopefully spare my english readers of my occasional German entries and thoughts like: “Ugh? German? WTF?” and my German readers of thoughts like: “Hmmpf, schon wieder alles auf Englisch”.

So, I wrote about how one.com caches everything and it is ridiculously annoying to debug something that is live (basically when you need it the most), right? Yeah, here’s a chat log with some of their support people from a while ago, I’ve completely dropped them and will move my last remaining domain from them when it runs out.

Welcome to the One.com chat support. We are doing our best to answer your queries soon. We kindly ask for your understanding that our answers may be delayed during busy periods.
You are now chatting with ‘Grace‘
Grace: Thank you for using One.com 24/7 Interactive Online Support. My name is Grace. How may I assist you?
you: Hey, I have a question about a domain
you: is any kind of .htaccess caching active on domain X or domain Y?
Grace: Hello
you: I remember telling you guys to turn it off
Grace: Please hold on while I check.
Grace: php cache is already disable for both domains. But the server cache is still active since this are not allowed to be disabled. As a workaround, you may have to upload an entirely new file to your webspace to reset the caching or just wait for few minutes delay on the caching for the changes to update.
you: disable it.
you: the customer did not sign up for this
Grace: Sorry but we cannot disable the server cache. Its not possible
you: Sorry, that is a lie, please make your superior call me. My phone number is 0045 xxxxxx
Grace: Unfortunately, we dont have phone support here
you: unfortunately you’ll have to find someone with a phone then
you: don’t give me info about having no phone, I’ll take this case as high as I need to
Grace: I will transfer you to a superior to explain this better
Please wait while I transfer the chat to ‘Eduard‘.
You are now chatting with ‘Eduard‘
Eduard: Hi there
Eduard: what seems to be the issue?
you: hello
Eduard: hi there
you: Grace misinformed me about that disabling server caching is not possible.
you: It is possible and I want it disabled for several domains. Being a web dev on your platform is unacceptable
Eduard: are you referring to varniche cache? or php cache?
you: the varniche, responsible for files
you: the php cache I told you guys to disable long ago
Eduard: yes which is disabled
Eduard: so which cache are you referring to disable?
you: the file cache
you: especially for me testing on .htaccess
you: what’s the activity time span anyways?
Eduard: ok let me check on that
Eduard: I got info that you can add this line in your .htaccess to disable file cache
Eduard: header add “disablevcache” “true”
Eduard: then it will be disabled
you: just on top of the file?
Eduard: yes please
you: okay, didn’t work for me
you: www.DOMAIN should point to http://DOMAIN
Eduard: you have to wait for 30-60mins for that
Eduard: give it time please
you: alright, when can I expect this caching to be disabled by default?
Eduard: no its not by default
Eduard: its enabled by default
you: alright, when can I expect it to be disabled by default?
Eduard: we have no plans on that
you: When can I expect you to start planning on that?
Eduard: that I do not know sorry you can send email to support@one.com for such inquiries
you: Nah, I think I’ll just blog about it again, gives me a lot of hits
you: oh and of course move all my domains
Eduard: oh ok then
Eduard: Is there anything else I can assist you with ?
you: You’d not consider sabotaging your own company, would you?
Eduard: sorry I do not understand what you mean
you: Oh, nothing big, just leak some documents or embarass your superiors?
Eduard: sorry but no
you: Okay, anything else you maybe could think of?
Eduard: no sorry
you: Hmm, that’s not very creative.
you: Alright, if you come to think of something, you can always send me a mail in these matters.

It was sunny with a little bit of rain, as the next picture promises, due to the dark sky and a pretty relaxed day.

Of course the exhibition hadn’t changed since the last time, but it was like some of the paintings greeted me like old fellows.

There was tasty food to be processed, both taste and view wise, since the dishes were arranged so they would have very radiant colours, like the paintings.

Right now I’m back at my desk and working on various projects and of course preparing for my exam. I’m looking forward to this round of trial by fire.

Public networks need restrictions. That’s a common rule of thumb and it makes sense to block services like FTP.

HOWEVER that does not make sense when you’re trying to educate Multimedia designers and web integrators, also it does not make any sense to kick students out the door of the IT-department that point out that every of their exams has somehow been influenced by not really being able to use the schools facilities as a workspace, but more as a hangout for drinking coffee, because the network is in your way.

Since it is part of my curriculum I demand opening of the SSH and FTP services for publishing and code version control.

If you want to know which kind of school would prevent their students from higher productivity, it’s Hansenberg

Until the 12th of August you should definitely visit Trapholt and attend their Kontroversielt! exhibition. It consists of 100 controversial photographies through time, background information is given in Danish, English and German.

The experience is shaking and everybody who even owns a camera in their phone or above should share it. Taking pictures as a provocative or journalistic matter and what impact it can have is presented radically there. Pictures of Abu ghraib, catastrophes and nude children gather in one room, I don’t recommend to visit it before having to present a project or holding a motivational speech.

Shortly after my arrival, my beloved and I helped these guys moving in together, which involved a lot of furniture, consumer electronics and a third floor without an elevator. Afterwards we went out for a beer with a view on the little lake in this town.

Right now my work/blog space is a little improvised and consists of a rooted and freshly unlocked smartphone and a laptop, but since I’ve worked under similar conditions for the past months, it should be fine.

An album, that I’ve dragged around for some weeks in San Francisco now is Born to Die by Lana Del Rey. First I was introduced to her by Ieva, but I didn’t really look beyond the song I liked (I better should have back then).

That I like female vocalists may not come as a surprise to any of you, but this one is a little different. The lyrics tell many stories and the mixture of this silk like sweet voice collides with the bloody truth of the words, leaving the audience with a cracked world, that quivers in its spin.

What musically sounds like easy listening, soft rhythms and samples is a masterpiece, which still is soothing after twentieth time.

Some of my favourite passages from this album:

Come and take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Choose your last words
This is the last time
Cause you and I, we were born to die

Born to Die

My old man is a tough man
But he got a soul as sweet as blood red jam
And he shows me, he knows me
Every inch of my tar black soul

Off to the Races

But he headed out on Sunday, said he’d come home Monday
I stayed up waitin’, anticipatin’ and pacin’ but he was
Chasing paper
“Caught up in the game” that was the last I heard

Blue Jeans

Carmen, Carmen
Staying up till morning
Only 17, but she walks the streets so mean
It’s alarming truly
How disarming you can be

Carmen

As mentioned earlier I bought this android phone. To make it more usable I had to root it, to free up the very limited internal storage and of course just to be the admin user on my fucking phone.

So rooting an android phone can be done through a couple of different methods, which mostly are designed and written for Windows (yuck!). So first I tried to use SuperOneClick with mono, which didn’t work out, but then I found DooMLoRD’s Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit)

So to root my AT&T Fusion / AT&T Huawei Huawei-U8652 on MacOS X 10.6 Snow Leopard I went through the following steps:

Download the Android SDK

Download DooMLoRD’s Easy Rooting Toolkit

Download the runme.sh

Find the adb file, which comes with the Android SDK and put it in the DooMLoRD folder

Replace the occurences of adb with ./adb in the runme.sh

run runme.sh

This did it for me. Instead of replacing anything in runme.sh, you can also make sure adb is in your path for executable tools on your Mac.

After doing this, you can install apps that require ROOT privileges to operate correctly. By this I can now move more apps to the sd card instead of bloating up the memory and install instagram, wuhu!

I very recently bought a smartphone, but not everything went as planned. Radio Shack sells phones that are labeled GoPhone, which basically are prepaid phones. I was lucky to find one that has an exchangeable SIM card (an AT&T Fusion, something Huawei manufactures). Even though I explicitly only wanted the data plan, since I will not be calling or texting inside the US, that’s the only thing available. AT&T sells Smartphones without any data traffic support at all, which I think is a pretty annoying thing to do. It’s like selling a screwdriver with a perfectly round tip, that got me stuck on an unlimited calling and texting plan for a month.

It’s not like I’d launch a nuke into the US if I had some 3G/4G network access on a prepaid phone.

Anyways, I’ve now been using my smartphone for a couple of days and gotten over the grutch towards the nightmare combo of Radioshack and at&t and have even purchased my first book through the Google play store, Hagakure, which I once owned in German and buried with the label “borrowed and never seen again”.

Here’s a list of apps I have downloaded so far and a little rating of them: Pixlr-o-matic is a nice app that kind of fills Instagram’s spot on Android and lets you take some spontainious pictures and slam a lot of heavy filters on them. The diaspora* webclient is a nice app to connect to diaspora (after specifying your pod), but I have not yet figured out how to make it sync the stream correctly or the same way as usual.

Although Google talk comes with this android ROM, I wanted an independent xmpp client and found Xabber. Most of this entry was written with the WordPress app, that lets you upload, edit and post to your blog, sadly the Drupal Editor is not working right now, caused by the broken drupal blog api module.

So I woke up, looking at a Mikkel that also had been woken up by a little earthquake in the San Francisco area. Well, my comment was something with “awesome” and we went back to sleep. Here’s a map about what was going on:

So I’m over here in San Francisco right now and I’m having a lot of fun with the guys. The days are long and the city still appears huge and unexplored to me. We’re living in Castro, one of the biggest gay districts of the world. The people are friendly and often alternative, which makes it pretty fun and safe to be around.

Now, some first impressions:

This is what happens if you overlook that sign that says happy hour. You accidentially 4 long island ice teas although you wanted one for each.

Mister M. just got a new baby he’s been taking good care of. He bought her a nice home and a new strap already.

In a little more than a day I will be between continents, and that not as usual, metaphorically, but physically.

I’ll be on my way to the US and I’m looking forward to a great time there! I’ll shoot a lot of photos and tell more about my stay on the usual social networks (especially Diaspora*) and over here.

This means that I’m not going to see my girlfriend in a really long time, but I just got a pretty amazing gift, that definitely will go on my wall over there. She’s probably the greatest drawing (yes, and painting, I know) talent I know and she sketches this down in really short time:

Onward to a time of multiple, different and great challenges, both personal and professional ones. It’s got its upsides to be easily challenged, because it puts you in this furious mood, where you know you can do anything you want.

These are pictures from 3 weeks of my summer in 2011, I actually already have written a lot of notes on. I could turn actually turn it into a huge travel report.

The reason I wont do this, this time is that I feel I wouldn’t be able to develop and present it as I would like to turn out to be. When we visited Latvia I worked a lot asides visiting so many beautiful places. The feeling of not completing my writing on this time of travel isn’t bad though I’m more happy that a few people will be able to let the pictures tell the story.

Thanks to my wonderful girlfriend Ieva for showing me everyything we saw and putting up with me, constantly stopping to take pictures

So, yesterday night I had some drinks with friends and on the way down to the city I saw that the gas station in front of my house was being refueled. So, I had to ask the driver if I could take a picture. He seemed to be close to retirement age and when I walked up to him (alone), his first question was:

“What do you want to take it for?”

I responded, that I didn’t want to use it for some kind of abusive manual and that it’s just something you don’t see every day. I though skipped out on the fact, that I thought it looked very nice also because of the snow, his luminescent clothes and the night time.

He agreed and kept on working, I think I didn’t bother him a lot and quickly moved on after three shots.

Furthermore I’ve also discovered photography as a tool for giving away very very personal things. I’ve been taking some self portraits recently and I don’t know if I ever want to show them to anybody else, than the person they were made for.

Actually this is one of the special parts about these pictures, they are not made for building my portfolio or for a paid job, even though I am a little proud of some of them.

To make the self portrait part a little easier, I today bought a Canon RC-6 for remote triggering my camera:

So the bottom line is, that I feel that I am developing in the matters of photography. I am more daring to ask or just shoot people and try to make them comfortable with it. Also to make photography a more personal thing, I still want to try everything and improve my skills as wide and as deep as possible, but I will try to keep it on a more consistent path, when I find some parts that I enjoy more than others.

Google just doped their designers again and went all in on their new Android Design page. This probably comes as a reaction to the inconsistency of Android Apps and is trying to teach the App devs som common guidelines.

I really don’t like pointing the finger, but this company just approaches social media in such a horrible style, that I want you all to see how NOT to do it. First of all, they advertise with social media services. Now, the funny thing is, that they have a facebook link at top and left of their site, with different like amounts, confusing the user? Hell yeah. Second, you can’t “find” them on facebook, because their page-name only directs to nyndesigns.com

On twitter, a couple of messages (often the same) sprouts up by multiple people. What could be going on here, is that a bot with some random people-stock pictures is tweeting all their pre-defined news messages over and over again, none of them responds when you tweet at them, neither the @nyndesigns account. I assume these are blind bot accounts, because they tweet the same messages over and over again, trying to over-over-advertise for the posts and services of nyndesigns.com

The funny thing is, that Nyndesigns advertists with a message like:

Professional web consultation services <s>@</s>nyndesigns Windsor, Ontario, Canada

Which does not add up with their behaviour on social media at all.

ground rules they are breaking:

Be available for questions and correspondence

Don’t repeat yourself

Be authentic

Below you see the confusing different amounts of likes on their facebook page:

and many more, able to be found on: https://twitter.com/#!/search/@nyndesigns

UPDATE: I just filed a spam report on twitter.com about this matter, including the information above.

UPDATE 2: (23. March, 2012)

I just received a mail from Nyndesigns and actually the difference of facebook likes was explained to me as for one the likes on the page itself and the other amount is for the facebook page. I was accused of not understanding technology like the open graph API of facebook, (stupid me). Well my point remains, that there actually is no facebook page, but it merely is set to redirect to nyndesigns.com, which I consider a bad use of social media. Maybe I really am doing it wrong, but when I search for the company name on facebook and click the only result, I get redirected. The only way to access it for me, is to visit the url, that was sent to me in the mail directly: https://facebook.com/nyndesigns

That is except Also admitted in the mail was, that they don’t use social media to communicate with clients, apart from maybe linkedin, (as an explanation why nobody cared about my tweets ).

Also the army of tweetbots is justified by, that many parts of the industry do it and that it’s offered as a service to clients. Now I don’t know how big parts of the industry are defined, but this is the most annoying and also the only that was not emitted by some scam company for shady sites, that I’ve ever seen.

Eventually, I was asked to remove this post (I guess my search engine ratings are too high and that’s something they had to react on, in contrast so somebody just tweeting at them).

I’ve today pulled myself together and went to the magic lantern wiki, an alternative firmware for Canon DSLRs to improve their HD-video functionality. I thought, okay, no matter how hard this is, I will script, debug and bite my way through the process of patching this. Turns out, you just have to download an archive, unpack it on your SD-card, put it into the camera and hit the upgrade firmware button in the camera menu. Easy going. Looking forward to explore and test all the additional functionality like adjusting the audio levels, zebra lines, manual ISO and white balance settings.

Apart from that I’ve taken a couple of long exposure pictures the last nights:
