Ja, sehr untypisch von mir, über dieses Album zu berichten, aber ich habe es mir wirklich ans Herz gehört, obwohl Songs wie The Fear, Not Fair und Fuck You im Radio rauf und runter laufen. Energetischer Pop mit Herz und typischen zwischenmenschlichen Themen, die in der Form aber üblicherweise nicht diese Popularität erreichen. Mich hat es überrascht, dass ein Lied, welches die Geschichte eines Mannes, der schlecht im Bett ist, geschafft hat so häufig gehört zu werden. Wahrscheinlich verstehen die Hörer den Text einfach nicht, bedauerlicherweise. Lily Allens bezaubernde, wenn auch nicht stark herrausstechende Stimme trägt die Texte, die mich inhaltlich in Back to the Start auch mal an Placebo erinnern, dem Hörer auf sehr angenehme Weise näher. Inhaltlich lässt sich das Album mit Annett Louisans Werken vergleichen, da es sich meist um Liebe, Sehnsucht und Beziehung dreht. Die kleinen Probleme der Gefühlswelt finden hier einen weiteren Platz in der Musikgeschichte. Him stellt hier eine Ausnahme dar und beschäftigt sich mit Gott,

wieder mit einem schönen Seitenhieb auf Rassismus, wie der, den wir aus dem Radio-Hit Fuck You sicher schon herrausgehört haben:

Mein aktuelles Lieblingslied ist Back to the Start. Thema ist eine Beziehung die zu lange schon im kalten Nass des Herbstes herumkriecht und eine Entschuldigung des einen Partners an den anderen ist, inklusive der Erläuterung des eigenen Neids, mit der Bitte einen Neuanfang zu wagen.

Zwischen Nina Hagens Stimme und Rammsteins Sound liegt Übermutter, Gothic Rock, der ausgerechnet über die selben Lippen wandert wie einst das penetrante “weil ich ja sowieso gewinn”-Mädchenlied. Den Auftakt des einzigen, bisher erschienenen Albums Unheil bildet Mädchen TeilZwo das den Hörer gleich auf die neue Richtung einstimmt und sich im Refrain mit “als ich noch ein Mädchen war…” deutlich von Lucy von Orgs bisheriger Musikkarriere emanzipiert. Matriarchalisch kommen nicht nur Texte wie “Denn am Anfang war das Weib, und sie sah, dass es gut war!” daher, sondern auch das restliche Image der Band. Der Gitarrist ist stets der Unterworfene. Der militaristisch provokante Look und die Texte die bewusste Parallelen zum dritten Reich beinhalten, diese jedoch nicht idealisierend, sondern ins gegenteil verkehrt dargestellt werden, sorgen für eine starke, oft mit negativen Emotionen geladene und hervorragend hörbare Mischung. In diesem Sinne: UnHeil! UnHeil!

Rammstein ist zurück und begeht mit dem aktuellen Album weder Qualitäts- noch Stilbruch. Gewohnt selbstsicher wird uns gleich in den ersten Sekunden befohlen unser Ohr einer Legende zu leihen. Der wortwörtlich rote Faden, den man verfolgen kann ist die Liebe. Wieder einmal nichts für zart besaitete, denn er erstreckt sich von BDSM-Sex über Inzest und Prostitution bis zum Kampf auf Leben und Tod um eine Frau. Die Lieder, die aus diesem Thema ausbrechen, wirken nicht störend, sondern als ergänzende Abwechslung. Mit bekannter Melodie wartet der Haifisch auf und mit Mehr wird sehr zielsicher die menschlicher Gier aufs Korn genommen. Mit dem Titel Wiener Blut widmet sich die band nach Mein Teil erneut realen Geschehnissen und erzählt aus väterlicher Perspektive eine der schockierendsten Familiendramen unserer Zeit.
Musikalisch bleibt Rammstein den treibenden Rhythmen weitestgehend treu und wird Fans der Band wieder begeistern. Insgesamt ein gelungener Mix aus Provokation und Rock, der Abgründe der menschlichen Seele zu ergründen versucht.
Kreuzfeuer, the new album of Subway to Sally continious the path that was begun on Bastard. Not as loud as before, but still with lyrics that are worth being interrogated. The CD comes with some extras like wallpapers and screensavers (Windows only, damn you blasphemic Microsoft-loving band ) and one big disappointment. The music video for Besser du rennst. Of course, Subway to Sally has never been famous for their videos but this is really a laugh.
Really great is that you can have a foretaste of all songs on STS’s website. You really have an idea about what you will buy and nice audio comments from the bandmembers. The CD itself is not copy-protected which is a positive thing because you in Germany (if you obey the law *cough*) may not even rip it to your mp3 or ogg player if you want.
The contents of the songs are biblical or related to inter-human relationships. As mentioned, the music is not as loud as before, less metal elements but a familiar style of lyrics and song-concepts. The refrains again have a lot of importance but are not rampant compared to the rest of the text.

Peter Fox’ first solo album Stadtaffe is a nice mixture of interesting rythms and clever rhymes. I’ve heard Peter Fox voice many times before, listening to Seeed and I loved his new single Alles Neu right away. I saw it by accident on MTV (not happening often, but this time it was worth the cell phone ads). The egocentric album about pre-, post-, or only party, beginnings, life plans and a few things in between make a great mixture.
My favourite songs are Alles Neu, Lok auf 2 Beinen and Schwarz zu Blau. The topics new beginning or new chapter in your life in Alles Neu and the restlessness in Lok auf 2 Beinen are well known. Also being alone in an urban environment even though everywhere are people is familiar to me too. Schwarz zu Blau is brutally honest about Berlin and the song I’ve definitly listened to the most. I love my nativ place, the Ruhrgebiet and feel at home in most ugly and big cities.
The musical part is an unusual hybrid between orchestra, drums and electronical beats and the great voice of Pierre Baigorry aka Peter Fox.

The M’era Luna was pretty great . After Wacken in 2006 it was my second festival and I went with my wonderful girlfriend Julia, the other Julia and Tom. I know, I look like I’ve been run over by a truck and not only on this picture, but whatever! The best concerts for me were ASP an Saltatio Mortis. Going On is the great new single by Gnarls Barkley and I’m absolutely happy, that I accidentially saw it on MTV Germany yesterday. The song brings the same euphoric rythm as the lines
“Hey, hey, hey, there’s truth in the thunder
Love in the lightning, the feeling is frightening
Yeah, isn’t it exciting?”
Lately I’ve been around in a filesharing board and I happen to open threads where people thank the uploader and publish where they saw this band live or where they will next time. It’s like: Oh yeah, this show was great, I’ll cleary go <insert date here> in <insert city here>. Why are musicians complaining? Don’t they earn more by people knowing them, going to their shows than only by selling records? As far as I’ve read the industry is (people putting art to wannabe copy protected media) earning the biggest part. Why should I support the industry, which makes it illegal for me to copy a CD I bought to my mp3player? I’ll support artists through their concerts, for me, that’s the best solution until there will be nice and DRM free downloads.
Last sunday, after nearly missing the train, Marcel, Sandra, Julia and me enjoyed our journey to Kiel where we had tickets for the Subway to Sally concert on November 4th. After wandering around in Kiel, with our typical quite and kind behaviour, we went to Halle 400, where the concert would take place. We waited a bit in the cold and were happy to get inside without difficulties. The pre-act was a band called Coppelius, which I didn’t know at all. I was very enthused, because their show and music are great. See them if you have the chance. Subway to Sally was as brilliant as always and maybe a bit better. All in all their shows lasted 3.5 hours, including Coppelius. The whole concert was awesome. Thanks to my homies and the bands!
Subway to Sally finally released their new album, Bastard, on October 19th. Going to be at a concert of the new tour on November 4th in Kiel. Looking forward to it. The album is very satisfying. The lyrics are awesome and the music is too. Compared to Nord Nord Ost there is less metal and more rock, which I like a lot. My favourite songs from the album so far: Vodoo, Puppenspieler.
