A blog about me, my doings and everything I think deserves attention.

freshing up my blog

Since my portfolio has been up, my blog has not gotten the love it used to get, so I decided to strip some things off and give it a new sexy booty face! So this is what it looks like so far. There is still some optimising ahead, but this is the general layout.

Primarily I used a custom written theme with that sexy little date box. The rounded corners are CSS3 without IE fallback (suck on it sucky browser users) and the blueprint css framework. The Fonts used are ChunkFive and DeJaVu Serif.

For everybody interested I have made the use of borders a little easier for me by putting them into separate classes for easier re-use.

.border_top {
	-webkit-border-top-left-radius: 10px;
	-webkit-border-top-right-radius: 10px;
	-moz-border-radius-topleft: 10px;
	-moz-border-radius-topright: 10px;
	border-top-left-radius: 10px;
	border-top-right-radius: 10px;

.border_bottom {
	-webkit-border-bottom-right-radius: 10px;
	-webkit-border-bottom-left-radius: 10px;
	-moz-border-radius-bottomright: 10px;
	-moz-border-radius-bottomleft: 10px;
	border-bottom-right-radius: 10px;
	border-bottom-left-radius: 10px;

.border_all {
	-webkit-border-radius: 10px;
	-moz-border-radius: 10px;
	border-radius: 10px;

    A new look is great! Like this much better :)
    Have two suggestions tho – I think the gray background is a tiny too boring. Add a tiny texture, for example photoshop noise of >1% on a repeating pattern.
    And the italic font is not that good for readability. You have tons of readable content, should stick with serifs or a good readable sans serif like Gill Sans or something of those.
    Just my 2 cents ;)

    p.s. I am a slab-serif lover. So I think your header font choice is pure awesomeness! :D

  3. Hey Jonathan,
    looks great and not even half as boring as the last design and even better then the first, although I can barely remember that one.

    You should change the italic though.

    • Actually, it’s not even Italic, but it looks that way, because of the book font stuff. I’ll test with more readable fonts, although I like the look right now.

      My first custom theme for this blog was grey and a picture at one side, which made the content area much too narrow.

    New look is kick-ass! :)
    It’s simple and clean, enough space.
    Although the font is a bit hard to read, but, since I have optic nerve damage + I lost my glasses, I may not be the best judge on that.

    PS. I love your date box!
    PPS. What about compression? could save almost 200KB on single page.
